Sunderland were unable to take an opportunity to go top of the Northern Division as they were held to a 2-2 draw by improving Curzon Ashton. Kelly Dean gave Curzon the lead in the sixth minute and Nicky McLeod extended their advantage midway through the first half. Sunderland hit back with goals before the break from Lucy Bronze and Sarah Danby but solid Curzon defending in the second half earned themselves a point which takes them out of the bottom two, whilst Sunderland go level on points with table toppers OOH Lincoln but possessing a game in hand. Newcastle Utd are continuing to climb the table steadily and their 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday has taken them into fourth place. Sarah Bennett opened the scoring for the Magpies with a powerful strike and Melanie Reay headed home the second to seal the points.
