Heckler a nuisance for Reds
 Women's Football News 29 Sep 2008

Heckler a nuisance for Reds - 29 Sep 2008 - Women's Football NewsOn a high scoring day in the National Division, Doncaster Rovers Belles caught up ground on the top three with a 5-2 victory away to Liverpool.

Emily Heckler and Rachel Williams gave the Belles a two goal lead inside the opening ten minutes before Cheryl Foster reduced the arrears from the penalty spot. Heckler restored the advantage but Foster struck again to make it 3-2 before half time. After the break, Heckler completed her hat-trick and Liz Hanson completed the scoring for the Belles.

An early goal blitz saw Bristol Academy on their way to a 4-2 win against Nottingham Forest. Gwennan Harries, Kerry Bartlett and Shelly Cox all scored within the opening twelve minutes and a Sam Griffiths own goal extended Academy's lead ahead of the break. To their credit, Forest did not give up and netted twice in the last fifteen minutes through close range efforts from Natalie Clarke and Andi Bell.

Birmingham City's impressive start continued as they narrowly defeated Watford 3-2 to cement their position in the top half of the table. Katy Ward netted the only goal of the first half for the Blues with Watford getting back on terms immediately after the break through Helen Lander. Amy McCann put Birmingham back in front with Mikaela Howell levelling again, but Sally Stanton settled matters for the Blues in injury time with the winning goal.

Blackburn Rovers kept up their excellent away form but were made to work very hard for their 4-3 victory away to WFC Fulham. Natalie Preston and Katie Anderton grabbed early goals for Blackburn with Katie McIntyre halving the deficit from the penalty spot. Anderton found the net again after the break but Fulham fought back with Jess Trimnell and Alicia Moran levelling the scores. However Blackburn, and Anderton in particular, were to have the final say with the prolific striker completing her hat-trick with five minutes remaining.
