Leicester City's fine start to the season continued as they defeated Preston North End 1-0 to hold on to the Northern Division leadership. Lauren Impey scored the only goal of the game, early in the second half, to ensure that Leicester stay on top of the fledgling table on goal difference. Manchester City are the other team to have taken maximum points from their opening two games, running out 4-1 winners over Curzon Ashton to keep up their good start. Katie Brusell struck twice in the opening ten minutes and Rebecca Lee added a third just after the half hour. Amanda Goodwin pulled a goal back for Curzon but Levi Wensley wrapped up the win for City after half time. Tranmere Rovers produced an excellent fightback from three goals down to earn a 3-3 draw with Reading FC Women, which takes them into third place. Reading looked to be well on their way to victory as Kelly Sims and Jen Osmond put them two ahead inside the opening quarter hour, and Osmond completed her double after the break. However Vicky Abbott and Jessica Murray struck twice in quick succession for Tranmere and Abbott scored her second to maintain her side's unbeaten start. OOH Lincoln made an impressive start, scoring seven without reply against Sheffield Wednesday. Carla Ward set the ball rolling for the Lady Imps with a first half hat-trick, with Amanda Barr netting either side of the interval. Ward completed a four-goal haul before Kerry Smith rounded off the scoring. Newcastle Utd also began their season a week late and with a victory, 2-1 away to Aston Villa. Rachel Furness opened the scoring for Newcastle with Kelly Saggs equalising shortly afterwards, but Melanie Reay bagged the points for the Magpies with the winning goals from the penalty spot.
