Rochdale fared very well in their first ever campaign in the Northern Combination last season and the early signs are that they can acquit themselves well again this time around. They kicked off with a 6-1 victory over newly promoted Morley Spurs, Beth Bell scoring twice with one apiece from Sue Perry, Susie Wells, Rachel Wood and Lisa Wood. Leeds City Vixens have been perennial title challengers in recent seasons and they have also made a good start, beating Bradford City 5-1 with goals from Sapphire McIntosh (2), Stacey Daniel, Michelle Walsh and Jo Mitchell. Salford Sports also recorded an impressive opening day victory and sit in third place in the fledgling table following their 5-2 success against West Auckland Town. Following their relegation from the Premier League last season, Stockport County began with a tough away trip to Middlesbrough but earned their first point as the sides battled out a goalless draw.
