Bass levelled the scores once again and completed her hat-trick in the opening minute of the second half, but Zoe Lance got Barnet back on terms before further goals from Murphy and Riana Soobadoo sealed the points. A late winner ensured that Crystal Palace defeated Cardiff City by the odd goal in seven. Kim Whitcombe and Sarah Brown put Palace two ahead in the opening quarter hour and Rebecca Duggan added a third before half time. After the break, Cardiff staged a great fightback and goals from Natasha Harding, Loren Dykes and Zoe Atkins brought them back on level terms before Sharna Longville netted a late decider for Palace. Charlton Athletic got off to a winning start, a 2-1 success away to Truro City. Daniella Farmer gave the Addicks an early lead which was doubled before half time by Kimberley Dixson, and the held on despite conceding a goal midway through the second half from Leanne Lapham. Millwall Lionesses ensured an opening day victory for new manager Keith Boanas, 2-1 away to newly promoted Ipswich Town. Keynsham Town won only two home matches in the league last season but they are already off the mark this time around, thanks to a 2-1 success over Portsmouth. Helen Bleazard gave Keynsham the lead via a spectacular 30-yard free kick and, despite Fiona McMillan levelling for Pompey after the break, new Brazilian signing Nunu grabbed the winner for the Somerset side fifteen minutes from time. West Ham Utd came away from Brighton & Hove Albion with a 1-0 victory. Zoe Marshall scored the only goal of the game for the Hammers, deep into the second half.
