Germany too strong for Scotland
 Women's Football News 14 Jul 2008

Scotland's UEFA Under-19 Championship campaign had a disastrous ending as they were beaten 7-0 by holders Germany in their final group match in Amboise.

Ritchie Wilson's side had already been eliminated following their defeat to England on Thursday and he took the opportunity to use some of the players who had not been involved in the previous matches.

Scotland could well have taken an early lead but Christie Murray was denied by a fine point blank save from Desiree Schumann but it was the Germans who went ahead on ten minutes through Lisa Schwab.

Kim Kulig lobbed home the second and, after Jennifer Beattie had cleared a Schwab header off the line, Marie Pollmann soon added a third and Stefanie Mirlach headed in a Julia Simic free kick. Scotland tried to hit back with skipper Rachel Corsie striking the bar but Schwab was complete her double on the stroke of half time.

Germany scored their sixth early after the restart, Marina Hegering netting from a Simic corner, and Selina Wagner completed their tally midway through the second half. To their credit, Scotland did not give up with Kim Little coming close to scoring but Germany are looking a good bet to retain their title and maintain their domination of European women's football, they will face Norway in the semi finals on Wednesday.
