Coventry Copsewood hot shot Ria Baker capped a memorable season by becoming the West Midlands League Golden Boot winner, having amassed 45 goals this season.
Going into Sunday's final game home league fixture at Allard Way against Walsall, just one goal separated Copsewood's net busters Ria Baker and Nicola Foskett before a seven-goal haul from Baker in the 12-1 win rubber stamped her name on the Golden Boot accolade, Jodie McGulkin was also on target for the Ladies team with skipper Leanne McKenna and Leona McCook both bagging two goals each as the team wrapped up their Championship winning season, netting 154 goals from 30 League and Cup outings which included a fantastic FA Women's Cup run.
Nicola Foskett, who has enjoyed an outstanding season, finished with 37 goals as the team completed back to back promotions in successive years from the league while recent signing Jodie McGulkin hit six goals in eight appearances having joined the club in February. Newcomers Chantelle Stanley and Katie Stevens have enjoyed a good first season with the club alongside more experienced campaigners like Kayleigh Brookes and Marsha Towey, who originally wore the colours of works outfit Coventry Marconi.
A busy summer lies ahead as manager Conneely prepares his team for Midlands Combination football next September and with numerous players having previously competed at a higher stage, then the transformation to higher grade Combination football should come as second nature to many within his small playing squad. While managers are judged on results, the contribution of captain Leanne McKenna should not be forgotten. Now in her third season at Copsewood, she continues to show her family football pedigree with 15 goals in 27 appearances.
