Of the 36 teams that entered the North East Women's League Cup, only two remain and they will face each other this Sunday in a bid to lift the trophy.
Teams from the North East Regional Premier League and Divisions One, North and South have been battling it out since last August and Whitley Bay and York City Ladies have made it through to the Final to be played this Sunday at the home of Darlington RA (2pm).
Whitley Bay play in Division One North and have swept all aside this season, winning the League title with a 100% record, scoring 80 goals and conceding only 14. En route to the Final, they have seen off Spennymoor, Pelton Newfield and Howden Clough.
York City play in the Premier Division, where they currently lie in third having played 20 games, won 9, drawn 4 and lost 7, scoring 49 goals and conceding 39. York knocked out Ossett Albion, Manvers and Team Northumbria on their way to the Final.
The teams met in a pre-season friendly back in August when they finished level with a 3-3 draw, but this may not provide much of an indication as both sides have made changes to their squads since then.
York should start favourites due to their League status, but Whitley have had a great season and will go into the game with confidence knowing that next season they will be facing teams like York every week. With the league trophy already in the cabinet, Whitley will be looking for a double come Sunday afternoon.
