However the Gunners still remain well on course to retain the title, needing eight points from their final four games to make absolutely sure.
Leeds Utd greatly boosted their chances of a top three finish as they narrowly defeated Bristol Academy 1-0. A tight match was settled shortly before half time when Amanda Barr scored the only goal of the game with an overhead kick.
Chelsea have climbed into fourth place following their 2-1 win away to Blackburn Rovers. Eniola Aluko and Ellen White netted first half goals to give them the win, despite Katie Anderton pulling a goal back for the home side after the break.
Birmingham City confirmed their top flight status with a 4-0 victory over Charlton Athletic, but the result means that Cardiff City are relegated to the Southern Division after a two-year stay. Sally Lacey put the Blues ahead in the second minute with Laura Bassett scoring a penalty shortly before half time, and Birmingham went on to wrap up the win with second half goals from Chelsea Weston and Sinead Wade.
