Wins for Arsenal and Everton - 4 Apr 2008 - Women's Football NewsArsenal moved ever closer towards retaining the league title with a 3-0 victory over Birmingham City, which takes them seventeen points clear in the National Division.
Lianne Sanderson opened the scoring on the quarter hour before Kelly Smith added the second with an unstoppable 25-yard strike and Karen Carney scored the third against her former club ahead of half time.
Everton moved into second place with a 5-1 local derby success against Liverpool. Jo Traynor gave the Reds an early lead but Amy Kane levelled shortly afterwards and a Rachel Unitt shot was deflected into her own net by Traynor as Everton went ahead for the first time.
Jody Handley scored with a long range effort shortly before half time and Everton went on to wrap up the points in the second half via a double strike from Michelle Evans.
On Wednesday night, Doncaster Rovers Belles completed their fixtures with a 1-0 win away to Cardiff City. Amy Turner headed in the only goal of the game to send the Belles into fourth place but the defeat for Cardiff means they are eight points from safety, with four games left to play.
