Two late goals saw Lincoln City go level on points with Northern Division leaders Nottingham Forest by beating Manchester City 2-0.
The Lady Imps needed nothing less than a victory in order to keep pace with Forest and were pushed hard by a determined City side. However three minutes from time, Leandra Little gave Lincoln a precious lead and with City pressing forward for an equaliser, Tanya Dickinson added the second.
Sunderland will have to settle for a third place finish after they were beaten 3-2 by Tranmere Rovers. Natalie Gutteridge gave Sunderland an early lead which was levelled just before half time by Vicky Abbott. Midway through the second half, Abbott kept up her recent good form by putting Tranmere in front but the lead lasted four minutes before Sarah Danby equalised. The game looked destined for a draw until Lindsey Smith grabbed the winner in the dying minutes for Tranmere to ensure that her side are safe from relegation.
However Crewe Alexandra were not so lucky and they are relegated back to Combination football after they were beaten 6-1 by Newcastle Utd, who are now up to fifth place. Crewe needed a victory to stand any chance of beating the drop and they started well with Emma Lambourne giving them a first half lead. Melanie Reay equalised just after the half hour and the Newcastle assistant manager went on to have a great day, scoring three times in a five-minute spell early in the second half. Julie Twaddle then added a goal before Reay scored her fifth goal - and her 20th of the season - to put a firm end to Crewe's valiant battle to stay up.
