Hope Powell conceded that her England side had not played well in their dull goalless draw with the Czech Republic at the Keepmoat Stadium.
"We got a point, but I'm just pleased we didn't lose the game," she admitted. "I am disappointed and so are the players - there are no excuses, we just didn't play.
"Credit to the Czechs, they came and did a job on us and we couldn't work it out. They got all eleven players behind the ball and it is difficult to play against.
"At times we were very naive and we need to be smarter in situations like this."
England were missing star striker Kelly Smith but Hope refused to blame the performance on her absence through suspension. "We can't use that as an excuse," she said. "We had too many players who were not on their game, but it was not for lack of trying."
Hope admitted the the playing conditions were tough but not the reason for the result. "The wind seemed to cause all sorts of problems for the players - but again, there are no excuses," she replied. "It was the same for both teams - they got bodies behind the ball and made it difficult for us.
"Some of the players need to look at themselves and be absolutely honest about the way they played. They tried, they're upset and disappointed and we must bounce back. We've certainly got some work to do now."
