Jaipur Cornwall League Division Three Champions, Penzance Res, completed their league fixtures with a fourth win of the season over Holmans, which denied their opponents the runners-up spot and saw Wadebridge Town hold on to the second promotion place.
Stand-in Magpies keeper Gemma Fitzgerald saved an early effort from distance and caught a free kick, while at the other end Candice Britten saw a volley drop wide and a drive clear the bar from a corner. Holmans were off target when under pressure from Rose Pannell-Hitchens and Gemma Sanders had a shot blocked after a Britten free kick. On 34 minutes Britten opened the scoring, giving the keeper no chance from 20 yards. Sorcha Dean was then twice blocked after a great long ball by Katy Whittaker, who had a strong game in central defence with Clare Todd.
In the second half, efforts from Britten and Shaz Lewis were well stopped while Fitzgerald did well to hold a Danni Woodbury cross. Dean doubled the lead on 59 minutes, collecting a long ball on the corner of the box and shooting inside the far post. A good period of play saw Dean win a corner, after a fine ball out of defence by Todd and an excellent touch from Kim Cook. Britten had a first time drive well collected as the Magpies ran out 2-0 winners in front of a good sized crowd.
