Spot-on Leeds to face Arsenal
 Women's Football News 17 Mar 2008
Leeds Utd will play Arsenal in the F.A.Women's Cup Final for the second time in three years after coming through their respective semi finals.
The Gunners saw off the challenge of Northern Division title chasers Lincoln City with a 5-1 victory whilst Leeds won on a penalty shootout for the third time in four rounds, this time at the expense of Premier League Cup winners Everton.
After just four minutes of play, Everton were unable to take a chance to go ahead as Carly Telford saved a penalty from Fara Williams and the England goalkeeper went on to give a fine display.
Chances were few for either side but it was Everton who went closest to scoring during normal time, Telford making a good save from Natasha Dowie and Jo Potter's shot being cleared off the line by Leeds skipper Jess Wright.
The game went into extra time and Telford was again called into action with a good stop from Jody Handley. Katie Holtham went close at the other end but the extra period could not produce a goal and penalties were required.
An unfortunate day for Williams was completed as she fired her kick over the bar and this proved to be the decisive moment as the remaining penalties were all scored and Leeds progressed to the Final with a 5-4 shootout victory.
Arsenal meanwhile proved to be too strong for a valiant Lincoln City side in front of an excellent attendance of 2,900 at Sincil Bank.
The Gunners made a strong start to the game with Kelly Smith giving them the lead after eight minutes, then Lianne Sanderson struck twice to put them three ahead by the midway point. Smith grabbed her second to tighten her side's grip even further in the 26th minute.
Sophie Barker pulled a goal back for the Lady Imps seven minutes later but they could not make any further dents into Arsenal's lead and Jayne Ludlow completed the victory with the fifth goal, ten minutes from time.
