Wednesday's trophy defence
 Women's Football News 14 Mar 2008
Wednesday's trophy defence - 14 Mar 2008 - Women's Football NewsSheffield Wednesday defend their Sheffield & Hallamshire County Cup title on Sunday when they play Doncaster Rovers Belles at Stocksbridge Park Steels F.C.
The Owls upset the Belles' winning run in the competition last year when they defeated the National Division side 1-0 in a keenly fought contest which proved to be one of previous boss Christine McCann's last games in charge.
Dan Duke has built on the side he inherited and the Owls find themselves yet again contesting the Final against their close rivals: "I'm really looking forward to this match, it's my first major Final as manager and I really am optimistic we can defend our title. We've built on what we achived last year and I feel we have a stronger side than last season."
The Owls will hope that top scorer Rachel Skeemer will be on form. Skeemer has enjoyed a great season, as have many of the squad. With two matches to go in the Northern Division campaign, the Owls have secured their safety after gaining promotion from the Northern Combination. "It was a real challenge for us this year as we have had to re-establish ourselves in the top flight, but the girls have acquitted themselves well and they deserve this Final and the knowledge that in the league we are safe," said Duke.
