The Northern Division title race could hardly be any closer as just one goal now separates the two main challengers at the top.
Nottingham Forest made the difficult trip to third placed Sunderland and came from two goals behind to snatch a valuable 2-2 draw. Sarah Danby gave Sunderland a sixth minute lead with Steph O'Brien adding the second just after the half hour, but goals either side of half time from captain Beth Bailey ensured that Forest took a share of spoils and held on to top spot.
Lincoln City meanwhile kept up their charge and their 5-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra means they have now caught Forest. Carla Ward got the Lady Imps off to a flying start with a second minute goal with Stacey Aisthorpe and Jodie Snelson netting shortly before half time. Sophie Barker added two second half goals, with Amanda Goodwin grabbing a consolation for the home side who need to win their final match if they are to avoid relegation.
Newcastle Utd banished any lingering relegation fears and are now just four points off fourth place following their 3-0 win against Manchester City. Melanie Reay kept up her recent good form by giving Newcastle the lead on the half hour and goals either side of half time by Rachel Furness wrapped up the points.
Rotherham Utd took a huge stride towards safety with a precious 3-1 success away to Aston Villa, who also need one more point to guarantee their status next season. Helen Lynskey gave Rotherham an early lead which was quickly cancelled out by Kristen Peters, but second half goals from Suzanne Davies and Claire Needham gave the Millers victory.
