Four out of four for England

UEFA Championship Qualifying Group One
Northern Ireland.....0 England...................2 (Williams 18, White 84)
at Mourneview Park, Lurgan

England remain on course as they seek to qualify for the 2009 UEFA Championships in Finland but were unable to seal their fourth successive victory until the later stages of a match played in windy conditions.
Hope Powell made two enforced changes from England's last qualifier against Spain back in November, Siobhan Chamberlain replacing Rachel Brown in goal whilst Katie Chapman's absence meant a recall for Jill Scott and Kelly Smith playing in the lone striker's role, whilst Anita Asante slotted into midfield.
England could have gone ahead in the sixth minute as Jill Scott found Asante in the area where she rounded Emma Higgins and squared for Smith whose shot hit the post.
Two minutes later, Smith was brought down in the area by Una Harkin and England were awarded a penalty. Smith picked herself up to take the kick but her shot was saved by Higgins, who reacted well to also save from the rebound.
Smith was once again denied by Higgins and she met a cross from Fara Williams which was tipped onto the bar by the Northern Ireland goalkeeper.
However England managed to get the breakthrough in the 18th minute. Karen Carney's deep cross found its way to Rachel Yankey whose deflected effort rebounded to Smith, her shot was charged down but Williams was on hand to tuck the ball into the empty net for her 18th international goal.
As the game moved towards half time, a good England move saw Williams' pass release Jill Scott down the left where her low cross picked out Yankey but the winger hesitated and this allowed the Northern Ireland defence to crowd her out before she could get in a shot.
England continued to dictate matters in the second half and they sought what would be a killer second goal. Higgins was having a great match between the posts for the home side and she once again foiled Smith with a good save.
It had not been the luckiest of nights for Smith and this was compounded as she picked up a yellow card during the second half, meaning she will miss England's next qualifier against the Czech Republic later this month.
England continued to press but the Northern Ireland defence stood firm to keep their side in the game. Faye White went close to scoring from a corner but the second goal was to prove elusive until the later stages.
With six minutes remaining, England finally put the game beyond any further doubt as a Yankey corner was not cleared and, from the ensuing goalmouth scramble, White lashed the ball into the roof of the net.
