Celtic progressed to the quarter finals of the Unite Scottish FA Cup but were pushed very hard before running out 4-1 winners over a valiant Dundee Utd side.
United took a first half lead from the penalty spot with Celtic getting back on level terms early in the second half via a goal from Jennifer Beattie. Celtic then pressed but United held firm and took the match into extra time. The first period did not produce any goals but it was Celtic who finally broke through as Leanne Crichton slotted home a penalty. Suzanne Malone then doubled their advantage and Hayley Cunningham put the result beyond all doubt with a fine individual goal.
One of the two all-SWPL ties went ahead and it was Hamilton Academicals who went through with a 5-2 victory away to Forfar Farmington. Pamela Liddell and Karen Penglase each netted doubles, with Nicky Grant also on target.
Hutchison Vale knocked out Premier League opponents Vale of Clyde with a 1-0 victory and Cowdenbeath are the other team definitely through to the last eight after they defeated Team Strathclyde 4-1.
The other four ties were postponed and three of them are set to be played this Sunday.
