Arsenal v Birmingham City - 24 Feb 2008 - Women's Football NewsF.A.Women's Cup - Road to the Final
Arsenal are now three steps away from a hat-trick of successes in the competition and their quarter final opponents will be well known to them.

For the third time in four seasons, the Gunners have been paired with Birmingham City in the last eight after seeing off the challenge of West Ham Utd in the Fifth Round, with an 8-1 victory.

Although they have never yet reached the Final, Birmingham have been very consistent in the F.A.Women's Cup in recent seasons and their furthest run took them to the semi finals in 2004, where they were beaten by Charlton Athletic. The Blues booked their place in the last eight this time around by coming through a very tricky tie with a 2-0 win away to WFC Fulham.

Birmingham manager Laura Harvey is in charge of a largely young squad which, due to a lack of league games since Christmas, has dropped to just below mid-table. Influential captain Laura Bassett is sure to be a key player for the Blues whilst Heather Scheuber is a talented young midfielder. Sally Lacey and Michelle Hickmott have each been selected in full England squads and other highly rated youngsters include Chelsea Weston and goalkeeper Sue Wood.

The match at Boreham Wood is sure to be a tough task for Birmingham but the Cup can often bring the best out of the Blues and they are sure to give Arsenal a test.
