Skills and drills at Female Beginners' Course!
 Women's Football News 31 Jan 2008
Time is ticking for potential footballers to take part in Essex' first nine-week adult Female Football Beginners' Course, with Essex County F.A. Girls & Women's Football Development Officer Sharon Brownlie advising late bookings to come-in a.s.a.p. for the Tuesday 5th February kick-off in Romford.
An all-female team of coaches will tutor the Course, which looks to give new or existing players a 'kick-start' into the game with weekly, hour-long sessions including simple and fun drills incorporating the essential skills required to play football. Sharon is excited about the prospect of the new project, explaining: "Interest is beginning to grow in the area. I'm hoping Courses like this will get a good turn-out to lead-on to further involvement so we can raise the profile of the female game locally."
Sharon, who was recently handed the task of promoting the sport in Essex's London Boroughs, explained: "There's still time left to book places on the very first female adult football project to take place within our London Boroughs. The sessions are flexible and fun and will hopefully give those who are new to the game a great insight as well as the passion to possibly take things further and join a team."
"I'd like to achieve a number of things from the Beginners' Course," continued Sharon, who works alongside Emma Wake in developing the women's and girls' game in Essex. "These targets include giving female adults the opportunity to take part in football as a form of exercise as well as enabling them to meet new people. It would also be great to provide current players with the opportunity to improve their existing skills and eventually present an opportunity to play for a local team as there isn't a women's side based in Havering at present."
All sessions will be performed in a friendly and relaxed indoor environment and comfortable footwear and plentiful refreshments are the only requirements of the attendees. Drills and exercises will be aimed at complete beginners, meaning the Course would be suitable for new faces, inexperienced players looking for extra practice and those just wanting to try something new and get fit.
The initial session for those aged 16 or over will take place on Tuesday 5th February 2008 between 7:00-8:00pm at Marshalls Park School, Romford, Essex, RM1 4EH. Further session dates are then scheduled for Tuesday 19th and 26th February, the 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th March and the 15th and 22nd April, costing just £1 per session. Requests for further information and bookings should be directed to Sharon on (01245) 393074 or via E-Mail at sharon.brownlie@essexfa.com.
