Nottingham Forest restored their four point lead at the top of the Northern Division, by winning 5-1 away to Preston North End.
Preston did take a second minute lead through Vikki Eastwood but Forest hit back strongly with Andi Bell scoring twice in six succession before Natalie Clarke drove home the third. Midway through the second half, Kirsty Robson headed in the fourth goal and Clarke completed her double to round off the victory.
Sheffield Wednesday kept up their recent good run with a 2-1 success against Stockport County, which keeps them in fifth place. Rachel Skeemer gave Wednesday a lead that was doubled in the second half by Sarah Smith, County's late consolation coming via a Lucy Foreman own goal.
Crewe Alexandra boosted their hopes of avoiding relegation with a vital 2-1 win over Rotherham Utd, which takes them to within one point of their opponents and three points from the safety zone. Nicky Gallimore opened the scoring for Crewe in the first half and Amanda Goodwin sealed the points by adding the second in the dying minutes, despite Helen Lynskey pulling one back for Rotherham.
