Hope Powell declared herself satisfied with England's 1-0 victory over Spain but admitted that her side looked jaded.
"It was hard work, but we knew it would be," she said after the game. "Spain are a good little side who caused us problems.
"We got the three points and that's what it's all about. We weren't at our best, I don't want to give excuses but it was probably through a bit of fatigue. Credit to Spain, they made it difficult for us.
"It was our toughest game since the World Cup and I can't fault their endeavour and work rate."
Hope felt that her players gave a better display after half time. "In the second half we came out a bit stronger, we were more tenacious and vibrant in our play," she said. "On the balance of play, I think we deserved to win.
"It's been a long, tough year and it is difficult for everyone to recharge during that time. But we have nine points in the group and it was another clean sheet.
"Our expectations have increased and so have those of the supporters - we demand more of ourselves now."
