Parry thrusts Liverpool into semis
 Women's Football News 5 Nov 2007
Liverpool are through to the semi finals of the Premier League Cup with a surprise 3-2 victory over Blackburn Rovers, spearheaded by a hat-trick from Chantelle Parry.
The newly promoted National Division side followed up their win over Leeds Utd in the previous round but needed to come from behind after Levi Penny gave Blackburn an early lead. Parry equalised midway through the first half and the winger went on to complete her hat-trick after the interval. Rovers captain Natalie Preston gave her side late hope by pulling a goal back but Liverpool held on to reach their third major semi final in four seasons.
Holders Arsenal also booked their place in the last four but needed two late goals to confirm a 3-1 victory over a battling Chelsea side. Karen Carney opened the scoring for the Gunners with a superb 25-yard strike just before half time but Chelsea were back on terms just after the hour as an Eniola Aluko shot ricocheted off Faye White and into her own net. Jayne Ludlow restored Arsenal's lead with twelve minutes remaining and Lianne Sanderson made the game safe by heading in from close range.
Fara Williams maintained her superb form as Everton ended the hopes of Sunderland - the one remaining club from outside the top flight - with a 3-0 victory. The England midfielder struck twice in the opening half hour, with a Michelle Evans goal sandwiched inbetween, to take the Toffees to within one step of reaching their first League Cup Final since 1999.
Watford are just one win away from a first ever major Final but needed to withstand a late fightback in their 3-2 win against Birmingham City. Goal ace Helen Lander scored either side of half time and Cori Daniels added a third to seemingly put Watford well on their way to victory but the Blues rallied with Dani Bird reducing the arrears and Laura Bassett netting a late penalty to give the Hornets a late scare.
