Essex County F.A. Women's & Girls' Officer, Emma Wake, hopes England's achievements so far in the F.I.F.A. Women's World Cup will inspire the County's female Schools teams to another title-winning season in 2007/08, as the trials for the new squads begin next month.
Following the Three Lions' qualification from the Group Stage along with reigning champions Germany, Emma foresees more local talent coming forward for consideration on Tuesday 23rd October at Marconi's Leisure in West Hanningfield, Chelmsford. "Both squads performed really well last season, with the Under 14s and Under 16s reaching the South East England Schools F.A. Finals." she recalled. "The Under 16s ended-up bringing the trophy back to Essex while the Under 14s competed in a fast-paced match that finished in Kent's favour. The Under 16s were really unlucky not to go further in the national finals after losing 1-0 to the eventual champions, Hampshire."
Back in May, Essex were celebrating their victory in the Victoria Dodd Under 16s Trophy after facing Kent for the second successive year, their 3-1 win again wrapping-up the tournament as they had done in 2005-06. Narrowly losing-out, however, were the Under 14s who went down 3-2 in what was an otherwise entertaining clash. Now the hunt is on for additional talent to don the prestigious white and navy strips as Essex aim to secure success in the forthcoming season's events. Emma continued: "The football on display from all the girls so far has been of a high quality and I'm looking forward to seeing this trend continue. This year, fingers crossed, we might go all the way!"
A Nomination Form is available to download from www.essexfa.com for candidates who P.E. Teachers and Team Managers feel are worthy of selection towards both the Girls' Under 16s and Under 14s squads and who will represent their school in an appropriate manner. This year's trials for both age groups will be held at Marconi's Leisure, Southern Fields, West Hanningfield, Great Baddow, Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 8HH.
The Under 14s' trials will take place between 10:30am&emdash;12:30pm on Tuesday 23rd October, with the Under 16s' equivalent kicking-off at 2:00pm until 4:00pm later that day. Players are advised trial Nomination Forms must be completed in full and received at least one week before the trial date. Trials are only open to girls in school years eight and nine for the Under 14s age group and years ten and eleven for the Under 16s.
Further information on the schools trials can be obtained from Emma at the E.C.F.A. via E-Mail at firstname.lastname@example.org or by phoning (01245) 393076. Any other questions or queries relating to the trials or female football in general should also be forwarded to Emma.
