Manchester City pulled off one of the results of the season so far on Wednesday evening as they won 2-1 away to Preston North End.
Katie Brusell netted both goals for City with Hannah Bailey replying.
The result means that Aston Villa have taken over the leadership of the Northern Division on goal difference, thanks to a 5-1 victory at Crewe Alexandra. Carly Davies led the scoring for Villa with a double and there was a goal apiece from Hannah Smith, Kelly Clarke and Stacey Arrowsmith.
A 3-1 victory away to Tranmere Rovers has taken Stockport County back into third place. Keeleigh Savage opened the scoring for Stockport in the first half and, after Tranmere equalised before the break, second half goals by Kerry Jackson and Sarah Howden meant that Stockport went home with all three points.
Rotherham Utd meanwhile celebrated their first ever Premier League victory, beating Sheffield Wednesday 2-1 in the match between the two newly promoted sides. Hayley Wood gave Rotherham a first half lead which was doubled by Suzanne Davies after the interval, with Rachel Skeemer netting a consolation for Wednesday.
