World Cup inspires Festival
 Women's Football News 12 Sep 2007
Almost 100 girls aged from six to sixteen took part in fun football skills and matches with a Women's World Cup theme at Lawford Junior F.C. last Friday, to celebrate the England campaign taking place in China this month.
Lawford have been awarded more than £6,000 through a Local Network Fund grant and the cash injection, along with support from the Essex County F.A. and Tendring Youth Sports Development, means they can now welcome girls of all ages with immediate effect.
Kate Everett, Development Officer at Lawford beamed: "We were amazed at the response from the girls in our area, with more than forty coming along to the festival. Even the very young girls stayed focussed for the entire three hours and can't wait to come back and start playing football at Lawford."
"The older girls were inspired by established teams and players who attended from Essex and Suffolk and proved we have some real local footballing talent. We are so pleased to finally be able to offer facilities for these girls to be able to play football locally and we were very proud to host such an incredible event."
"I would like to thank the Essex F.A., who have supported us in driving this project forward, and who organised all the activities on Friday. As a result, we have more than three times the number of girls we expected signing up to play here as they were so motivated by the event."
Emma Wake, ECFA Girls' & Women's Football Development Officer, added: "Friday night's festival was fantastic! The number of girls who turned up to play was really positive and demonstrates the need for local girls teams in this area. Lawford Junior F.C. have worked really hard to ensure everything is in place for a quality girls section to be established."
"Running the event as a cross-border festival, working in partnership with Suffolk F.A., enabled us to welcome girls from all the local villages and towns, regardless of what County they were from. There is certainly potential to continue running specific festivals or leagues in the North East of the County, so watch this space!"
Girls' coaching starts at Lawford Junior F.C. this Saturday, 15th September, from 11am to 12.30pm for girls aged between six and sixteen. Contact Kate Everett on (01206) 397111 for further details or log-on to www.lawfordjuniorfc.co.uk.
