Lincoln City are delighted to announce the signing of former Blackburn Rovers centre half and midfielder Melissa Cook.
29-year-old Melissa is a hugely experienced defender and midfielder who has played at the top level of women's football for many years, and captained National Division Blackburn Rovers last season. She comes into the Lady Imps squad courtesy of the kind sponsorship of Ray Trew and SportsTV. Ray has pledged up to £10,000 for a fund to sponsor talented players into the Lady Imps first team squad to aid their battle for promotion this season. She made her debut in Lincoln's 3-0 victory over Stockport County on Sunday, which takes them into second place in the Northern Division table.
"I am absolutely delighted with the signing of Melissa Cook," declared Lady Imps chairman Geoff Adams. "Our manager Rod Wilson has been looking for someone just like her for a long time, someone who can bring a wealth of experience to our defence and midfield, who has a cool head and excellent distribution skills. Rod asked me to keep her signing quiet until after the match with Stockport, so that we had an extra card up our sleeve.
"After seeing her play on Sunday, with her instinctive defensive skills and the quality of ball she was distributing all over the park plus the knowledge and experience she is now passing on to our players, I have absolutely no doubt as to the magnitude of this signing as far as Lincoln are concerned - we are very pleased to have her."
