Pompey keep up good start - 10 Sep 2007Portsmouth have edged three points clear at the top of the Southern Division after beating Millwall Lionesses 2-1.

Brooke Chaplen gave Pompey the lead ten minutes before half time and Kirsty McGhee added the second on the hour, Pru Buckley pulled a goal back but Portsmouth held on to record their third successive victory.

Crystal Palace are in second place as they kept up their good start by winning 2-0 away to Brighton & Hove Albion. Laura East put Palace in front after an hour and Beth Curtis wrapped up the victory with the second goal.

Newquay were beaten at home for the first time, 2-0 by Keynsham Town who ended their run of draws. Sheila Rocha gave them the lead from the penalty spot just before half time and the Brazilian striker completed her double early in the second half.

Colchester Utd were another side to claim an excellent away win, a 3-1 success at previously unbeaten Barnet. Kate Longhurst opened the scoring for the U's in the 12th minute before Helen Bass netted once in each half, Stacey Sowden scoring a late consolation for the Bees.

AFC Team Bath added to Reading Royals' woes by scoring twelve without reply, to record their first win of the season. The university side netted six times in each half, spearheaded by hat-tricks from Elen King and Cheryl Baber. Carly Bryant weighed in with two and there was a goal apiece from Jo How, Tina Wakefield, Kirsty Richardson and Carla Greenham.

WFC Fulham also notched up their first league win in spectacular fashion, 8-0 at West Ham Utd. Sarah Lipscombe and Ann Marie Heatherson each scored hat-tricks with Emma Hayes and Leah Jones also on target.
