Lincoln City booked themselves a trip to Stockport County in the First Round of the Premier League Cup, thanks to a hard earned 3-1 win away to Millwall Lionesses.
The two sides had started the day as leaders of the Northern and Southern Divisions and Millwall started the stronger of the two sides, but it was Lincoln who took the lead when Jodie Snelson pounced on a loose back pass to score. Millwall hit back to equalise shortly before half time but, after the break, Megan Harris headed home two second half goals to edge the tie in the Lady Imps' favour.
Newcastle Utd won the highest scoring game of the round with a 6-3 success over Sheffield Wednesday, which earns them a plum home tie against Bristol Academy. Kayla Carter and Ruth Sutcliffe each netted twice for the Magpies, with one apiece from Nicola Devine and Sarah Bennett.
It was a good day for the two clubs relegated from the National Division last season as both moved safely through to the First Round. Sunderland claimed a fine 1-0 win away to Nottingham Forest, a game of few chances being settled in the dying minutes when Steph O'Brien scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot. Sunderland now have a home tie against Charlton Athletic.
WFC Fulham meanwhile trailed 1-0 at half time to AFC Team Bath before a second half recovery saw them run out 6-1 winners. Elen King had given a first half lead to Bath whose goalkeeper Lauren Wells had saved a penalty but, after the break, Leah Jones levelled the scores before going on to complete a hat-trick, Ann Marie Heatherson atoned for her earlier penalty miss by netting twice and Danielle Farmer also got on the scoresheet. Fulham's reward is a tough one as they must travel to in-form Preston North End.
