Stockport County are the new leaders of the Northern Division after coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1.
Stockport got off to the worst possible start when a mix-up in their defence saw Hannah Smith put Villa ahead after only 17 seconds but midway through the first half, they brought the scores level when Krystle Johnston scored from a 30-yard free kick. Keeleigh Savage struck the bar for Stockport shortly before half time but, a minute later, Charlotte Higginson powerfully headed home from a free kick to give the Cheshire side their third straight win and end Villa's unbeaten start.
Preston North End also have three wins out of three, a 2-0 success over Rotherham Utd lifting them into second place on goal difference. However they were made to work hard for their victory over the Yorkshire side, who had a first half goal disallowed, and it was in the 73rd minute when Emma Sconce broke the deadlock following a goalmouth scramble. Gemma Watson wrapped up the points with the second goal, ten minutes from time.
After two opening defeats, Tranmere Rovers claimed their first points of the season when they defeated Manchester City 2-1. City looked to be on their way to their first win as Gemma Horner gave them a first half lead but a late fightback saw Rachel Rigby turn the match in Tranmere's favour with two goals in the last ten minutes.
