It was a tough baptism for the two newly promoted clubs in the Southern Division as both went down to 2-0 defeats in their first Premier League matches.
Crystal Palace handed newcomers Colchester Utd a 2-0 reverse in their opening game, Williams giving them the lead after just five minutes and Curtis wrapping up the points with the second, early in the second half.
Meanwhile Newquay's tough first match away to Millwall Lionesses also saw them beaten 2-0, Pam McRoberts netting a goal in each half for the home side.
Barnet are another side who are expected to be among the challengers this year and they got off to a good start, winning 2-1 away to Brighton & Hove Albion. Stacey Sowden netted both of the Bees' goals in the opening fifteen minutes, Katie Hodges pulled one back on the half hour for Brighton but Barnet held on to take the points.
In each of the last two seasons, West Ham Utd have lost their opening three league games but this time they have made a winning start, 1-0 away to AFC Team Bath. Victoria King scored the only goal of the game for the Hammers, five minutes before half time.
Honours were even as Keynsham Town battled out a 1-1 draw with last season's runners-up Portsmouth. Kayleigh Sage gave Keynsham the lead with Gemma Hillier equalising for Pompey, however the match was marred as Keynsham striker Sheila Rocha suffered a head injury which saw her taken to hospital.
