Newcastle United under-16s were crowned North Tyneside Champions for the second consecutive year after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Pontefract Girls.
Pontefract took the lead with ten minutes on the clock after a slip in the Newcastle defence. The black and whites pushed forward looking for an equaliser but were kept out by excellent last ditch defending from Pontefract. The breakthrough finally arrived on the stroke of half time when Toni Laurie scored from ten yards after a neat turn to send the teams in level at the break.
Newcastle went 2-1 ahead, three minutes into the second half when Steph Eadon scored from the spot after being fouled. Eadon got her second of the game soon afterwards, Pontefract pulled a goal back with five minutes remaining but the black and whites managed to hold their nerve to win the game 3-2.
Newcastle Coach Lisa Bell said: "Today's game was a great advert for girls football and both teams should be proud of what they have achieved. The game was played in a fantastic spirit and there was a lot of excellent play from both sides."
Newcastle under-12s meanwhile suffered heartbreak in their Final against Lumley Whites, losing on penalties after the scores were level following extra time.
