A last gasp equaliser from captain Fern Whelan salvaged a 1-1 draw for England in their opening UEFA Under-19 Championship group match against Poland in Reykjavik.
The Poles were making their Finals debut and they took the lead in the 12th minute when the unfortunate Jayne Eadie scored an own goal.
In a well contested game, Ellen White went close and Danielle Buet forced a save from Bocian but England still trailed at half time.
England still pressed after the interval but could not break the Polish defence down and it looked as though it would not be their day as Natasha Dowie's goal was ruled out for offside.
However as the game went into the fourth minute of injury time, Sophie Walton's free kick was headed back across goal and Fern Whelan was on hand to earn her side a crucial point.
England's next match will be on Friday against France, who opened up their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Spain in the other group match.
