Mo quietly confident
 Women's Football News 13 Jul 2007

Mo quietly confident - 13 Jul 2007 - Women's Football NewsEngland Under-19 kick off their bid for the UEFA Under-19 Championship crown on Wednesday against Poland, with Head Coach Mo Marley quietly confident.

England's group in Iceland also contains France and Spain who, whilst having differing records at senior level, both have strong pedigrees at youth international level.

"Poland are more the unknown quantity at this level," Mo told TheFA.com, "but they were very impressive in qualifying. We have some footage from their game in Wales, and whilst they scored a few goals to get to the Finals - as did Spain - neither of them give much away at the back."

England's senior team had to overcome the French to qualify for September's World Cup and at Under-21 level last November, a 1-1 draw at Exeter City proved there was little to choose between the two sides.

Ironically Spain have been drawn in the same group as Hope Powell's side for the Euro 2009 qualifiers, but Mo remembers the last time the two sides met at this level.

"It was a 1-1 draw at Arlesey Town of all places, and we rescued a draw with a goal in added time at the end of the game from Jo Traynor, following a Jo Potter corner," said Mo.

"Both countries have got experience of getting to Finals [Spain won in 2004 and France in 2003] at youth level before. Their preparation will be just as thorough and our players will have to be totally focused and professional in their approach."

When asked to evaluate her current squad, Mo was keen to stress that the squad has goals potentially throughout its ranks.

"In terms of out and out strikers then you'd be looking at Ellen White and Natasha Dowie, but we're fortunate that others can chip in. Claire Rafferty is a very talented player on the left, Jess Clarke likes to get forward too and in someone like Sophie Bradley, we also have some height at set pieces," continued the England boss.

"After all the anticipation and planning, we can't wait to get started."
