Zoe Cranmer is on the verge of fulfilling a dream by taking up a scholarship in the USA.
The 19-year-old defender has spent her career to date with Southampton Saints but next month she will take up a new challenge after much persistence.
"For the last year I have been searching for a chance to play and study in the USA," Zoe told Women's Soccer Scene. "After a year of trying, I was going to give up but in January I received an e-mail from a college in New Mexico, saying they were interested in me coming to play for their soccer team.
"They invited me for a trial and look around the college. I flew out in April and at the end of the week, the coach called me in his office and said he was very impressed with me. I was offered a 70% scholarship to play out there for the CSW Mustangs - an offer I could not believe."
On 5th August, Zoe will travel to the USA to play college soccer for the College of the South West in Hobbs, New Mexico. "This has always been my dream, to go to America and play college soccer, and I can't believe that I am actually going there for four years," smiles Zoe.
Moving to America will have one drawback for Zoe but she is looking forward to the opportunity. "This will only be my second team," she says, "as I have played for Southampton for the last eleven years - from the under-10s to the first team, playing Premier League football.
"My time at Southampton has been amazing and I will miss all the girls I have grown up playing football with, but I am so happy to be moving to the States to play and study."
