New Birmingham City striker Amanda Barr is relishing the prospect of playing for her new club, saying: "It's a new challenge for me." The England forward, nicknamed 'Munch', has joined the Blues after two years at Charlton Athletic in which she finished as the league's top goalscorer.
Amanda revealed that one of the main reasons for her deciding to move was because of the long journeys from Loughborough and her home in Stockport, and has nothing but praise for her old club. "Charlton are the best club I've ever played for, the girls and the manager are great but the travelling was too much. For the last two months of the season I wasn't the same, I was absolutely shattered."
Another incentive for Amanda to join Birmingham was the chance receive specialist training from Michael Moore, who will be looking after the strikers. "This is really impressive, no other club has a 'striker coach' who can work one-on-one with me and help improve my game. He will be able to work on things that other people will not spot.
"I know that Marcus Bignot has brought me to the club as a goalscorer and that is a challenge for me as I am looking to finish as top scorer again. Birmingham is a club that can really be going places after a couple of years together.
"I think we can be on a par with Charlton. Last season the matches between Charlton and Birmingham were all very close ones and if we can build on this, we could do very well.
"It's a fresh start with a new club and I'm really looking forward to the new season."
