Second half does the trick!

Farnham Town 5 Denham United 1

Farnham Town remain top of the Southern Region League Premier Division after a 5-1 win over Denham United, extending their 100 per cent record with a second half goal blitz after a competitive opening 45 minutes which saw Denham take the lead.

Kelly-Jade Whelan, with a fine brace of goals just before the hour, took the game away from the visitors who competed well much of the time but were well beaten in the end.

Denham started brightly and took a 14th minute lead when a snap shot from Brogan Moore bounced awkwardly to deceive home keeper Rose Kite as she dived to her right. Farnham were creating half chances but the visitors went close to extending their lead before Leanne Bell equalised, striking home from close range from a Cherelle Khassal corner on 32 minutes.

As a sunny day gave way to a chill breeze and driving rain over the half time break, so the hosts found their best form. Khassal ran clear five minutes after the restart to net from 25 yards. Whelan added the the third from a similar distance with a fine lofted effort on 55 minutes then settled the outcome on the hour mark when firing home after a goalmouth scramble.

Meila D'Santos added a late fifth after another corner and Farnham's second half dominance could have produced further rewards which had seemed unlikely after an even and competitive first period but showed the wide range of talent available to the league leaders.
